NTG5*1 (also written NTG5s1 or NTG5.1) is one of two parallel NTG5 COMAND head-unit variants. It has built-in Apple CarPlay / Android Auto support and the SD-card slot on the head-unit fascia, and was fitted across mid-2010s compact and SUV Mercedes models.

About NTG5*1
- NTG5*1 has a physical keypad on the fascia — NTG5*2 and NTG5.5 are rotary-controller only. The keypad is the easiest visual way to tell *1 from *2.
- NTG5*1 supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto natively (NTG5*2 does not — it needs a retrofit box for those features).
- The SD-card slot is on the head-unit fascia rather than in the centre armrest as on NTG5*2.
- *1 and *2 aren't a sequence — they're two parallel hardware variants that Mercedes used on different platforms through the same era. *1 went to compact and SUV models (A, B, CLA, GLA, E W212 facelift, CLS, GLE, GLS, SL, SLC), *2 to large saloons and sporty platforms (S, C, GLC, V, X, AMG GT).
