Why USB coding? USB coding is the simplest way to unlock Apple CarPlay — no ENET cable, no Windows laptop, just a USB stick prepared with the files we provide. The catch is firmware compatibility. On EVO ID5 and ID6 head units, USB coding works on older firmware revisions only. From firmware 18-11 onwards, BMW removed USB coding support, so newer iDrives can only be activated through ENET cable coding. If your car is running an older revision, this listing is the quickest route in. If you're on 18-11 or newer, you'll need our cable coding variant instead. How it works once installed: Connect your iPhone over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and your iDrive turns into a CarPlay-ready interface. Run Google Maps or Waze on the factory screen, stream music and podcasts from Apple Music, Spotify, or your iTunes library, dictate messages hands-free with Siri, take calls, and access every CarPlay-compatible app — all controlled through the iDrive knob or touchscreen, depending on your spec.

Important — a Wi-Fi antenna must be fitted: Every EVO ID5 / ID6 head unit comes with the Wi-Fi port built in, so there's no need to worry about port compatibility. What you do need is a Wi-Fi antenna — wireless Apple CarPlay relies on an internal Wi-Fi connection, so the antenna must be installed in your iDrive for the activation to work. Fitting it is a simple plug-and-play job: the antenna clips straight into the dedicated Wi-Fi port on the back of the unit. If no antenna is fitted from the factory, you'll need to add one before coding.

This activation is performed via USB coding. To complete it you'll need:

• A USB flash drive (8 GB or larger, FAT32 formatted)

No ENET cable and no laptop required. Full written instructions are supplied with your purchase, and the coding itself takes only a few minutes inside the car.

Compatible with BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and Toyota Supra vehicles equipped with EVO ID5 or EVO ID6 head units running firmware older than 18-11. The Wi-Fi port is built into every EVO ID5 / ID6 unit as standard, so the only requirement on the hardware side is a fitted Wi-Fi antenna — if your car didn't come with one from the factory, it'll need to be added before activation (a quick plug-and-play install into the rear of the iDrive).

On firmware 18-11 and newer, USB coding is no longer supported by BMW — those vehicles need our cable coding activation instead.
