Details

Unlock wireless Apple CarPlay on your BMW or MINI EntryEvo / EntryNav2 iDrive with this cable-coded activation package. Once enabled, your iPhone connects straight to your factory display — no aftermarket screens, no dongles, no extra hardware bolted on.

What you get with the activation:

  • Permanent Apple CarPlay enablement tied to your VIN

  • By default, CarPlay runs in BMW’s split-screen layout. Fullscreen CarPlay can be enabled on compatible units via add-on. Please ensure your unit supports this feature before purchase.

  • Clear, step-by-step coding instructions written for non-technical users

  • Email support if you hit any snags during the procedure

How it works once installed: Pair your iPhone over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and your iDrive instantly transforms into a CarPlay-ready interface. Run Google Maps or Waze on the original screen, control music and podcasts from Apple Music, Spotify, or your iTunes library, dictate messages hands-free through Siri, take calls, and use any CarPlay-compatible app — all from the iDrive controller or touchscreen, depending on your spec. It's the safest, cleanest way to bring iPhone integration into an older BMW or MINI without replacing the head unit.

Important — a Wi-Fi antenna must be fitted: Wireless Apple CarPlay on EntryEvo / EntryNav2 head units relies on an internal Wi-Fi connection, which means a Wi-Fi antenna must be installed in your iDrive before the activation will work. Fitting the antenna is a straightforward plug-and-play job — it simply clips into the dedicated Wi-Fi port on the back of the unit — but it is a required step. If your car doesn't already have one fitted, you'll need to add it.

Not sure whether your head unit even has the Wi-Fi port required for CarPlay? You don't need to pull the unit out to find out — our Free BMW VIN Decoder will tell you instantly. Just enter your VIN, and the report will confirm whether your iDrive is CarPlay-capable and whether the Wi-Fi port is present. For more guidance, see our FAQ section.

Installation

This activation is performed via cable coding. To complete it you'll need:

  • An ENET coding cable (OBD-to-Ethernet)

  • A Windows laptop running Windows 10 or newer or Mac OS with MacOS 13 or above.

Compatibility

Compatible with BMW and MINI vehicles equipped with EntryEvo or EntryNav2 head units that have an internal Wi-Fi port and a fitted Wi-Fi antenna.

Not sure if your iDrive qualifies? Run our Free BMW VIN Decoder — the report confirms your exact head unit and tells you whether the Wi-Fi port required for Apple CarPlay is present, so there's no need to remove the unit to check. If the port is there but no antenna is fitted, you'll need to add one before activation — it's a simple plug-and-play install into the dedicated Wi-Fi port on the rear of the iDrive.

2022 mini update
17 Feb 2025

Had a 2022 mini with no nav. This enabled me to add apple car play with no issues. I did had to add a WiFi antenna before adding car play.
